Get ready, Toronto, because a powerful winter storm is on its way!
A major winter storm is set to hit the GTA overnight, bringing a mix of freezing rain and snow to the city.
CP24 Meteorologist Bill Coulter warns that this storm will create hazardous conditions on our roads, with a potential for significant snowfall and ice accumulation.
"We're looking at a major storm system arriving tomorrow morning around 3 a.m., lasting until the evening. It's going to be a high-impact event with plenty of snow and freezing rain," Coulter said.
Environment Canada has issued a winter storm watch, a yellow alert, for several GTA regions, including York, Halton, and Durham. Some areas could receive up to 15 centimeters of snow on Wednesday, with Toronto expecting up to five centimeters.
But here's where it gets controversial...
While the snowfall amounts are relatively predictable, the storm's path remains uncertain. This means the affected areas and exact snowfall totals could change, as noted by Environment Canada.
And this is the part most people miss...
In addition to the snow, Coulter highlights the danger of ice accretion. Even a small amount, like the five millimeters predicted, can be extremely hazardous on untreated roads, weighing down tree branches and potentially causing power outages.
"It's important to pay attention and adjust your plans accordingly if you have travel scheduled for Wednesday," Coulter advises. "Take advantage of today's calm weather and mild conditions to prepare."
But wait, there's more!
Another weather system is expected to bring more active weather to Toronto on Friday and into the weekend.
So, Torontonians, stay tuned and be prepared for some wintery weather ahead!
