Get ready for an exhilarating start to the Cheltenham Festival!
Garth and Anne Broom, the dynamic duo behind Native River's historic Gold Cup victory in 2018, are gearing up for a potential Grade 1 double on the very first day of this year's festival. Their horses, Sober Glory and Alexei, are set to compete in the Skybet Supreme Novices' Hurdle and the Unibet Champion Hurdle, respectively, on Tuesday week.
Trained by Joe Tizzard, Alexei has made significant strides this season, moving from handicaps to become a strong contender for the Champion Hurdle. The Brooms, racing under the Brocade Racing banner, believe that the drier conditions at Cheltenham could be the key to unlocking Alexei's true potential.
"We're heading into this with a real shot at success," Garth Broom shared. "But Cheltenham can be a tricky place; it can make even the best horses look average. We were thrilled with Alexei's win in the Kingwell, especially considering the heavy ground at Wincanton, which wasn't to his advantage. I'm confident he'll shine on faster tracks, improving by a stone."
